Students Participate in 'Hour of Code' for Computer Science Week

Students from Rock Island Academy and Thurgood Marshall Learning Center  took part in computer science week (Dec. 4 - 10) by participating in an Hour of Code. 
The 'Hour of Codeā„¢' is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week [] and [] to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming. During the Hour of Code, students coded their own version of the game Minecraft. Those who finished/completed at least a Level 6 in the hour received an Hour of Code Certificate to take home. Each student who participated received a t-shirt. 
Rock Island Academy teacher Quiana Whitt remarked that future jobs will rely on technology, and she hopes that this experience will lead to future interest in the area of computer programming and computer engineering. 
The Hour of Code program was sponsored by the YWCA of the Quad Cities.
